Personal Income Tax Season 2026: Key Dates for Business Owners and Self-Employed Individuals

Personal Income Tax Season 2026

The deadline for personal income tax filing for the 2026 tax season in Singapore was 18th of April 2026. This deadline applies to individuals who must submit their YA26 tax returns, including self-employed individuals and business owners whose income was earned in 2025. The following dates should be remembered:

  • 1st March, 2026: The information on tax season and pre-filled tax information becomes available for taxpayers.
    • 18th April, 2026: This date is the general deadline for filing the income tax returns of individuals.
    • Within 1 month of the tax bill: The deadline to pay the assessed tax, unless an approved instalment arrangement applies.

Since the deadline for filing personal income tax returns has passed, anyone who is left with filing the return ought to act promptly through the IRAS myTax Portal. IRAS can impose a fine and take legal action in case of late filing.

Who Requires To Submit An Individual Income Tax Return?

If a person’s income is more than 22,000 SGD per year, or the net profit exceeds 6,000 SGD from self-employment, or a non-resident of Singapore who derived income, he or she is supposed to file the income tax return. It must be filed if IRAS has instructed them to file the tax return, even if it is below the limit.

This is specifically related to freelancers, counsellors, tutors, home-based small businesses, and sole proprietors. It should not be forgotten that income from the business of sole proprietor is reported in the tax returns of owner’s individual, when it is not filed as a different company income tax return.

How Does a Self-Employed Individual Submit Taxes In Singapore?

Self-employed individuals normally report their income through Form B1 or Form B, when applicable, by using the myTax Portal of IRAS. These individuals are supposed to declare their income and eligible expenditures, concurrently with other applicable reliefs and taxable income.

  • The business income statement relies on annual sales before expenses, such as:
    • 200,000 SGD or less
    • 200,000 SGD or more

For instance, if a self-employed individual is earning 80,000 SGD in 2025 and incurred 24,000 SGD in company expenditures, the net profit would be 56,000 SGD. The financial advisor would generally report this income in the individual tax return with other eligible relief claims and taxable income. Self-employed individuals are supposed to maintain precise invoices, sales records, expenditure documents, and receipts to assist the declaration. IRAS needs the records of relevant businesses to be retained for a minimum of 05 years.

Self-employed individuals are supposed to avoid mistakes. For instance, if an individual is earning 100,000 SGD and incurs business expenses of 40,000 SGD, the net payable profit would be 60,000 SGD. This individual is supposed to report the precise figures and declare other income where needed. IRAS can request the supporting documents to verify the numbers.

What If You Miss the Deadline for Personal Income Tax Returns?

If you are needed to submit the income tax returns by 18th April, 2026 but have missed the deadline, you are supposed to log in to the IRAS myTax Portal to confirm your filing status first and then submit any pending returns at earliest.

The IRAS can issue an estimated assessment for tax, impose a payment, or take legal action for late filing. You can apply for a deadline extension through the myTax Portal if you don’t meet the deadline.

What Do Self-Employed Freelancers Prepare For Upcoming Tax Season?

Even though the 2026 filing deadline for income tax filing returns has passed, but early preparation can make the coming season easier. Owners are supposed to:

  • Make a reconciliation of sales, bank transactions, expenses, and invoices
    • Separate the personal expenses from business expenses
    • Keep the vouchers, records, and invoices for a minimum 05 years
    • Prepare profit and loss statements
    • Review the eligibility criteria for personal relief
    • Keep an eye on IRAS announcements for upcoming filing seasons

Freelancers with annual revenue of 500,000 SGD are supposed to take note of the requirements of IRAS to upload a certified accounts statement when it comes to filing, if applicable.

Conclusion

In the end, it can be concluded that the deadline for personal income tax for YA26 was 18th April, 2026 in Singapore. Company owners and freelances are supposed to report their business income precisely, retain the supporting documents, and claim only eligible expenditures for businesses. Those who have missed the deadline are supposed to check their status with the IRAS at the earliest.
